Abstract

The purpose of study was to discriminant stress-induced eater by using BMI and eating behavior factors(cognitive restraint, disinhibition, hunger) in high school girls.
The data of the study were collected from purposively sampled 309 normal high school girls and 314 obese high school girls in S city.
Data was collected from May 6 to August 26, 1997 with Questionnaire about stress and stress-related eating change and eating behavior scale.
The data were analyzed by Discriminant analysis and t-test, according to the purpose of research using SAS package.
The results of the study were as follows :
1. By using the BMI and eating behavior factors, the possibility of proper prediction for a stress-induced eater group was 67.2%, predicting a non stress- induced eater group was 68.3%, and total Hit Ratio was 68.1%.
2. Variables which showed significant for discriminating stress-induced eater were cognitive restraint, disinhibition and hunger. BMI was not sigbificant variable.
3. Cognitive restrain(t = -2.03, p = 0.041), disinhibition(t = -3.18, p = 0.001) and hunger(I¢¥ = -2.03, P = 0.008) were significantly different between %tress-eater and non- stress eater.
As a result of these findings, clinical and school nurses can detect the stress-induced eaters and can apply appropriate management program.
